ABOUT US
Cary & Val Day have owned and operated a travel agency in the Spokane area for past 27 years and continue to do so (www.houseoftvl.com) in conjunction with the St. Joe Riverfront B&B on the banks of the beautiful and lazy St. Joe River.
As we have escorted many groups to various destinations and handled thousands of personal vacations, it has also afforded us the opportunity to sample many different cuisines which we replicated by cooking and entertaining in various venues. After hosting several Murder Mystery Theme dinners full of nonstop laughter, the idea to open a B&B was born. After years in the travel industry, the key elements that have kept us in business are great service, attention to details, and effective communication with our clients. These, along with great food, hospitality, and location will serve as the keys to the success of our B&B.
In July of 2002, the first shovel of dirt was moved to begin the process of building this 3700 square foot home with 135 feet of river frontage as the front yard. Acting as the general contractor, Cary named his company "Gopher Construction" and as time went on it couldn't have been more appropriate. We had many great people (subs) assisting in this project and thank them for their efforts. However, what made the project so special was the effort by our sons (Ryan, Reggie, & Patrick, daughter (Kirsten), and Val's mother (Pat). On the inside, from sanding and staining the many varieties of wood, assisting in the laying of tile and carpet, hanging doors, installing closet shelving, painting each room throughout the house using techniques such as faux, frottage, marbling and stenciling, to hand sewn blinds and bedspreads. We hope the landscaping on the outside will speak for itself. The large outside deck, retaining walls, fountain creation, lawn seeding, stone paths, and the creation of Pat's Point was accomplished as a team effort from day one.
Enough "About Us," we invite you to be our welcomed guests to soak in the peaceful beauty of the St. Joe and its surroundings. We look forward in sharing our little piece of "heaven on earth" with you!
